Designed for SSDs (Solid State Drives), Secure Erase is a method that permanently deletes data by erasing all NAND flash storage in a way that prevents recovery. Since SSDs use wear leveling and garbage collection, traditional overwriting methods (like in HDDs) are less time efficient but still secure. Instead, SSDs use built-in Secure Erase commands that reset the NAND to a factory state.
Active@ KillDisk supports Secure Erase for Linux-based packages such as:
- KillDisk Industrial (Linux Only)
- Active@ KillDisk Linux
- KillDisk Console
- KillDisk LiveCD in Active@ KillDisk Ultimate.
Secure Erase is not available in Windows-based packages due to Microsoft blocking the necessary function in Windows 8 and later editions.
As such, our Active@ KillDisk Professional will not include Secure Erase as it includes Windows based versions of our software only. We recommend you upgrade to Active@ KillDisk Suite and use the included KillDisk Console with Secure Erase or Active@ KillDisk Ultimate and use either the KillDisk Console or Linux based Active@ KillDisk installation or LiveCD bootable enviroment.
